Tottenham Hotspur start the new Premier League season with a tricky trip to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.

The Spurs boss was pleased to confirm a huge boost with the news that while Kieran Trippier won’t be involved this weekend his ankle injury isn’t serious so he should make a swift return to action.

The right-back picked up the injury in pre-season and there were fears he’d sustained serious damage but Spurs have confirmed only minor ligament damage has been suffered so Trippier should be back sooner rather than later.

In a further boost, Pochettino also revealed that Victor Wanyama has recovered from a knee injury while Heung-min Son has been passed fit from a broken arm that he suffered in pre-season.

However, Danny Rose – who’s future was thrown in doubt following a controversial newspaper interview yesterday – isn’t available as he continues to recover from a knee ligament injury from last season.

Erik Lamela is also unavailable as the Argentinean international is still recovering from a long-term hip injury while Georges-Kevin N’Koudou is also sidelined with a foot problem.

With Trippier ruled out, Eric Dier could fill-in at right-back while it will be interesting to see if Wanyama or Son are selected to start as neither have featured much during pre-season so won’t be match fit.
