Tiemoue Bakayoko has sent a message to Chelsea fans thanking them for their support after making his debut during their 2-1 win over Tottenham yesterday.

Bakayoko completed a big-money move from Monaco this summer but was forced to wait to make his debut as he was still recovering from a knee injury that he sustained in France at the end of last season.

The 23-year-old was making good progress with his rehabilitation and was initially expected to be in contention to return to the first team squad at the start of September.

However, Antonio Conte was forced to bring forward Bakayoko’s return due to his lack of midfield options and the French international played in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Cobham last week in order to build his match fitness.

Chelsea have yet to sign a replacement for Nemanja Matic while Nathan Chalobah has joined Watford so with Cesc Fabregas suspended following sending sending off against Burnley last week, Conte had limited options for the Tottenham game.

Bakayoko was therefore drafted in to make his debut alongside N’Golo Kante and David Luiz in the middle of the park and the Frenchman received widespread praise for his display as Chelsea ran out 2-1 winners against Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday.

The midfielder has now taken to Instagram to express his delight at being back on the pitch and to thank the Chelsea fans for their support and encouragement.

Let’s be honest Bro bakayoko is not better than matic, I wasn’t really impressed with what I saw yesterday, he almost cost us the game with that poor tackle that led to the equalizer. Maybe he would improve as he continues to play, with the way they hv been hyping this dude I tot I would see an upgrade of matic, he is still below d standard of matic

Bro If yu are a Chelsea fan for sure you should noe that he wasn’t fully fit. He was due early September but he sacrificed his recovery as Conte had run out of options in the middle of the park.Yes in the first half he was a bit rusty but in the second half he flexed his muscles superbly regarding the fact that he is not 100% fit. That was a spirited performance from the Blue Soldier

You can’t judge him just yet…remember he’s not 100% fit. He obviously show a glimpse of why Chelsea bought him. His work rate is fantastic and he’s a money well spent
