Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has offered an update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Philippe Coutinho and it looks like Liverpool have successfully held on to their playmaker.

Coutinho has been strongly linked with a move to the Nou Camp after Barca identified the Liverpool star as a key target following Neymar’s world record move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Catalans have been using every dirty trick in the book to try and get a deal agreed but Liverpool have stood firm and refused to sell despite Coutinho handing in a formal transfer request.

The Daily Star claim that after already rejecting offers of £72m and £92m, Liverpool knocked back Barcelona’s third bid worth £113m on Friday and ignored their self-imposed deadline of 7pm on Sunday to agree a deal.

Balague has now offered an update on the saga and the Sky Sports pundit claims Barcelona have been forced to END their interest in Coutinho and turn their attention to other targets such as Jean-Michael Seri, Ousmane Dembele and Angel Di Maria.

The Spanish football expert Tweeted:

If true, this news will be met with jubilation by Liverpool fans as they’ve seemingly successfully fended off interest from one of the biggest clubs in the world and hung on to a key player.

Obviously there is still time for Barcelona to renew their interest and launch a fourth bid but I don’t think it will make any difference as Liverpool have made it clear Coutinho won’t be sold at any price this summer.

It’s now going to be interesting to see how the Brazilian international is integrated back in to the Liverpool squad as we’ve seen reports suggesting he’s refusing to train and doesn’t want to play for the club again.

However, things change quickly in football and I’m sure the situation will be solved amicably once the transfer window is finally closed at the end of the month.

It looks like this particular saga is over…..for now at least.

Personally I think going to Barca would have damaged him as they are going backwards.

Neymar has gone, Suarez injured and the wrong side of 30, Iniesta over 30 too and is saying that for the first time he is considering his future with his contract ending in 2018, Messi reconsidering whether to sign his contract, and a President who needs about 10 transfers to get one to work out. Lucky escape in my view.

My concern is if Coutinho doesn’t get his Move to Barcalona then what will he go through with his threat of not putting on the Liverpool shirt again and watching from.the stands until he does get sold ?
At the same time I don’t want Liverpool to let him go on the cheap as I still feel we need strengthening as a squad as we are still short in area’s and selling Coutinho could help us bridge that as I would certainly be more concerned if it was Mane going !!
It looking better that we will finally get VVD but I would have like a 2nd CB brought in also like Howedes who at €20M could have been a bargain and if we do sell Coutinho how about a Player or 2 in exchange such as Rakitic ? And finally in my View we are still short on the wings as we could do with a Player who can play both sides as cover plus I have everything crossed for INGS to finally have a injury free season as i have always beleived in this guy and could be someone we need more then we expect as Sturridge I expected to have been sold this summer as not the same guy certainly lost some pace and been lazy but we also have Solanke as I’m still 50/50 on Origi as doesn’t score enough for me !!!! Finally Sakho I was hoping Klopp would have given him a final chance but after watching Klaven play last week that was the final Nail in Sakho’s coffin which means Sakho is a goner which is a shame as he looked great at palace on Loan!!!
