Liverpool Reach Agreement To Sign Croatian Star As Klopp Closes-In On 4th Signing

By on August 22, 2017

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Mateo Kovacic….

Liverpool appear to be closing-in on another signing after reaching a verbal agreement with Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic over a move to Anfield this summer, according to a report in the Daily Star.

Kovacic has struggled to hold down a regular first team place at the Bernabeu since joining Madrid from Inter Milan two years ago with the midfielder making just 19 starts last season.

The 23-year-old’s chances of breaking in to Zinedine Zidane’s plans don’t look any better this campaign as the likes of Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Isco, Marco Asensio and Dani Ceballos are all competing for places.

It’s led to speculation that Kovacic will be on the move before the transfer window closes as he looks to secure more regular first team football ahead of the 2018 World Cup finals.

It looks like a move to the Premier League could be on the cards as the Daily Star are citing a report from Diario Gol that claims Kovacic has now reached a verbal agreement to join Liverpool this summer.

The Spanish outlet suggest the Croatian international may have been viewed as a potential replacement for Philippe Coutinho but I think it’s far more likely Jurgen Klopp wants to add Kovacic to his current group of players.

The Reds boss has been trying to sign another central midfielder all summer and has been looking at other targets after failing to sign RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita so I think Kovacic is viewed as an alternative to the Guinea international. Plus, it looks like Liverpool have fended off interest from Barcelona in Coutinho so the Brazilian international is going nowhere.

Kovacic is a specialist central midfielder so the former Dinamo Zagreb star will offer competition to the likes of Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum if he does end up moving to Anfield.

The report doesn’t give any indication as to how much Madrid are demanding to sell Kovacic or whether Liverpool may be looking for a loan deal but I think he’d be an excellent piece of business if the Reds can get this transfer over the line.

Klopp has already signed Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Dominic Solanke so far this summer so Kovacic would become Liverpool’s fourth major addition if he completes this proposed move.

The snag is I don.t believe liverpool are interested. They don,t intend buying anyone because in my opinion Klopp thinks he can solve anything. He is determined to rely on who he,s got and only time will tell if pride comes before a fall. He doesn,t seem to appreciate that we have a lot of sluggish players who really are not good enough., and that the other teams have bought some brilliant players. Watching Everton last night shows that they will be a threat to us. The one thing they have now is a brilliant defence, far better than ours. I think Klopp is a self centred, determined, single minded man. He is a dream manager for fsg because he does not like to spend money. What about morale, all teams like new players for competition. The fans also like a lift so why cannot anyone see that. It’s nerve racking watching Liverpool because we all know they are not good enough.

I think it’s clear Klopp will spend money as we have been chasing £70m VVD and made bids of over £70m for Keita AFTER breaking our club record to buy Salah. It’s unfair to say Klopp doesn’t look to spend, but should he spend and bring in people like Andy Carroll? Is that what you want?

FSG have put the cash up – they have actually backed every manager since they came in so you may as well leave that out.

You should just relax as a lot of what your saying is just your emotions and don’t have a basis in fact or what’s going on at present. Chill, the window is still open.

Have you got 100% proof that klopp gets a big transfer kitty available to him ???.deducting what we made from sales we actually spent nothing last season and so far during this transfer window weve spent about £40 mill if we deduct what weve made in sales again .If coutinho stays then id be extremely surprised if we end up spending £30 mill + on another player this window because i personally dont believe fsg are willing to spend the money . We will only spend decent money if coutinho is sold and if im wrong ill eat my hat

Would absolutely love if this came to fruition as he is a class act and is definitely an upgrade on our current midfielders. Sell Can and get him in asap.

No need to sell anyone, additions and not subtraction are what we currently need.

I agree Ayo – more players means more competition for pl es which means a better standard of play.

Gone are the days when LFC need to sell first before we buy.

Can is a quality player and certainly not at the top of the list of players who should leave the club

I hope and pray that it wouldn’t take too long again before Klopp realises that his team at the moment has no midfield and defence. He should just lay down his pride and open his mind and eyes to see and admit deficiencies in the team. With the likes of Lovren in the team, I don’t think we mean any business this season.

To i think our players need some time to gain fitnes, if we could buy in the midfield then our problems would b solved

With it now looking more positive that Liverpool may finally get 1 of their 2 key targets with that being
VVD now Southampton have bought a new CB which I expect we will go for next summer but which means VVD could finally be coming to Liverpool which is Massive news for us as VVD & Matip as the new pairing is great and having Lovren as Backup our Defence is looking so much better by just adding VVD.
So then that leaves Klaven further down the order but I would be so much more happier if we still went for Howedes then that gives us 2 decent CB pairings !!! Then going after Mateo Kovacic… yes please he’s a great CM and letting Klopp coaching him would make a massive difference and give him the tools to be a world class CM as the guy is still so young and Klopp is building a great Squad for Now and the future so they can grow together..so if these 2 deals go through who else or positions would you like filled before the close of the transfer window ?? For me I would like to see another winger arrive for cover of Mane and Salah and who could play both sides ?
Finally for me would be a DM which we really haven’t had for many years now since really Mascherano I would say but because of the way Klopp likes to play he wouldn’t always want to play a dedicated DM so why not buy a DM who also plays CM or more positions ? Such as someone like Geoffrey Kondogbia or
I’m hearing that Klopp is looking at Carvalho again as West ham are going all out also for him so atleast that way if the player is a CM but needs to play a deeper role no worries plus again if on the bench that player such as Kondogbia
Can play CM’ DM’ CB’and LB all positions which we need cover at so what other Players can you guys think of that plays DM plus CM or other position that you would like at Liverpool… YNWA sorry for the length guys just so passionate and very excited with what Klopp is building at Liverpool 😊
