Star Has Medical With Spurs Ahead Of £23m Move After Man Utd & Chelsea End Interest

Serge Aurier has completed a medical with Tottenham ahead of a £23m move after Chelsea and Manchester United ended their interest in the full-back

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Spurs close-in on Serge Aurier…

Serge Aurier has completed a medical with Tottenham ahead of a £23m move after Chelsea and Manchester United ended their interest in signing the Paris Saint-Germain full-back, according to L’Equipe via the Mirror.

Aurier joined PSG from Toulouse in 2015 but he’s been looking to leave the Parc des Princes all summer following the free transfer arrival of Dani Alves from Juventus.

The right-back has attracted plenty of interest from England as The Sun reported last week that Chelsea had joined Tottenham and Manchester United in the race to sign the Ivory Coast international.

Antonio Conte has been searching for another attacking right-back to offer competition to Victor Moses in the wing-back role and Aurier was seemingly on the Chelsea bosses radar.

Jose Mourinho is still in the market for further additions before the window closes and Aurier would have been signed as a long-term replacement for 32-year-old Antonio Valencia if he moved to Old Trafford.

However, Tottenham emerged as front-runners for his signature earlier this week with Get French Football News reporting that Spurs had agreed a £23m deal with PSG to sign Aurier this summer.

It looks like the move has edged closer to completion as the Mirror are now citing a report from L’Equipe that claims Aurier has completed his Tottenham medical in Paris ahead of his proposed £23m move to north London.

However, the deal is still awaiting official confirmation as the French publication says that Aurier’s lawyer is waiting for documentation that will allow Aurier to obtain a work permit.

The 24-year-old was refused a visa to enter the UK last year after being convicted of assaulting a police officer and the Mirror claim the uncertainty led to Chelsea and United ending their interest in the player.

However, Aurier is understood to have been successful with his appeal against the conviction and should be granted a UK work permit once the correct documentation is obtained from the courts.

That will allow him to complete his proposed move to Tottenham and I think Aurier will prove to be an excellent signing for the north London if they can get this deal over the line before the window shuts.
