Liverpool Steal March On Arsenal & Man Utd By Tabling £55m Attacker Bid

Liverpool have stolen a march on Arsenal and Manchester United after tabling a £55.5m bid for Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar, according to Sky Sports News.

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool make a bid for Thomas Lemar…

Liverpool have stolen a march on Arsenal and Manchester United after tabling a £55.5m bid for Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar, according to Sky Sports News.

Lemar has developed in to one of the most highly rated young attackers in Europe over the past two years and he provided 14 goals and 17 assists to help Monaco land the Ligue 1 title last season.

The 21-year-old has attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League this summer with the Daily Record reporting recently that Manchester United had joined Arsenal in the race to sign the winger.

Jose Mourinho has been searching for a wide attacker all summer and it looks as though the United boss is eyeing Lemar as a potential alternative to Ivan Perisic after failing to agree terms with Inter Milan.

Arsenal were the early front runners to sign Lemar but have struggled to agree terms with Monaco after seeing a £30m offer rejected by the French champions last month [via Sky Sports].

Arsene Wenger suggested that the deal was ‘dead’ at his press conference last week but the Mirror then reported over the weekend that the Gunners were ready to test Monaco’s resolve with a fresh £50m offer.

However, it looks like Liverpool have now stolen a march on Arsenal and United as Sky Sports News claim the Merseysiders have now tabled a £55.5m bid for Lemar – although L’Equipe suggest the figure is closer to £66m.

Monaco have insisted they wouldn’t sell the French international as they don’t want to lose any more of their key players but they may find it difficult to resist now that Liverpool have seemingly tabled a huge offer.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Arsenal and United now step-up their interest in light of Liverpool’s bid but I think Lemar would be a superb signing if any of the English trio are able to secure a deal before the window shuts on Thursday night.
