Premier League football returns from the international break with a bang as Liverpool entertain Manchester United at Anfield this lunchtime.

Liverpool currently sit seventh in the table after being held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle United before the two-week hiatus so Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to get back in the mix for the title with a win today.

That’s never easy against United but Jose Mourinho’s side have made a superb start to the new campaign with a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace two weeks ago ensuring they remain level on points with Man City at the top of the table.

These games are always a feisty affair and today should be no different with Mourinho insisting at his press conference on Friday that he relishes the intimidating atmosphere at Anfield so let’s hope for fireworks on Merseyside this afternoon.

Team News

Liverpool were dealt a major injury blow during the international break after Sadio Mane was ruled out for six weeks with a hamstring injury that he suffered while away with Senegal.

Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino are expected to be fit to start despite their late arrival back from South America while Dejan Lovren has recovered from a back injury.

However, Adam Lallana remains out with an on-going thigh problem while Nathaniel Clyne is still recovering from a serious hamstring strain.

As for United, they’ll be without Marouane Fellaini after he picked up a knee injury with Belgium while Michael Carrick has also been ruled out once again with a calf issue.

With Paul Pogba still nursing a hamstring injury, Mourinho has little option but to recall Ander Herrera alongside Nemanja Matic this afternoon.

However, there is better news regarding Romelu Lukaku as the striker is fit to start after shaking off a minor ankle problem and Phil Jones is expected to be fit to start in defence.

Likely Line-Ups

Predicted Score

Liverpool 1-1 Man Utd: The Reds are winless in their last six league meetings with United and have won just one of their last eight matches in all competitions against the Manchester giants. However, Klopp has an excellent record against Mourinho having lost just one of his seven meetings with the so-called ‘Special One’. United have been impressive this season but I don’t see Liverpool losing at Anfield so am backing a 1-1 draw.
