Jose Mourinho has offered an update on Manchester United’s injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s trip to Huddesfield following last night’s 1-0 win over Benfica.

United put one foot in the knockout stages of the Champions League thanks to a rather fortunate second half winner from Marcus Rashford which secured a 1-0 win at the Estadio da Luz.

The England international was forced off during the latter stages of the game after picking up a knock and Mourinho had initially hoped it was just cramp.

However, the United manager has now confirmed that Rashford felt something in his knee and the club will have to conduct further tests before the full extent of the injury is known.

Phil Jones wasn’t involved against Benfica last night as the centre-back didn’t feel he was 100% fit but Mourinho has revealed that he should be back in contention to face Huddersfield this weekend.

Jones’s availability will be a boost as Mourinho also confirmed that Eric Bailly is unlikely to be involved on Saturday as he’s still recovering from a knock that he picked up while on international duty earlier this month.

Paul Pogba has been out for several weeks with a hamstring injury while Marouane Fellaini is nursing a knee ligament problem but Mourinho isn’t sure whether either player will be in a position to return to action this weekend.

The United boss told ManUtd.com:

“Phil Jones was on the bench because he felt that if we really needed him, he could [play]. So if he was at that stage today, on Saturday I think he will be in a condition to play. For Eric Bailly, I think it will be difficult.

“With Rashford, I thought it was cramp because he was running so much – I thought it was muscular fatigue. But no, he told me he felt something in his knee. It didn’t look to me like a big thing but we don’t know.

“Hopefully some of them [can return at Huddersfield] but I don’t know. I don’t know about Paul, I don’t know about Fellaini.”

United head in to the weekend action sitting two points adrift of leaders Manchester City following their draw at Anfield so Mourinho will be hoping to keep the pressure on their rivals with a win at Huddersfield on Saturday.
