Arsenal, Liverpool & Chelsea In Fierce Battle To Sign German Star

Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea face a fierce battle to sign Leon Goretzka after Manchester City joined the race to sign the Schalke midfielder

The transfer window may be closed but clubs are still working hard ahead of January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, several Premier League clubs are after Leon Goretzka….

Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea face a fierce battle to land Leon Goretzka after Manchester City joined the race to sign the Schalke midfielder, according to a report in the Mirror.

Goretzka started out at boyhood club Bochum but has developed in to one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Germany football since joining Schalke in the summer of 2013.

The 22-year-old has been a key man for Schalke in recent seasons and he’s also now a regular in the German international squad with six goals in his 12 caps so far for the world champions.

However, Goretzka’s future at the Veltins-Arena is in serious doubt as he’s got just seven months left on his current contract and has so far refused to sign an extension despite the clubs best efforts to tie him down.

Understandably, the midfielder has attracted plenty of interest from top clubs throughout Europe and a move to England could be on the cards as the Mirror claim Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all expressed an interest in signing him.

The newspaper cites recent reports coming out of Spain that suggest Goretzka could be heading for Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to find a replacement for compatriot Emre Can – who’s also out of contract in the summer.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger needs to revamp his squad with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil set to leave the Emirates and it looks like Goretzka is on his radar while Chelsea are also seemingly in the running to sign the German star.

However, it looks like they will face fresh competition as the Mirror claim Man City have now joined the race as Pep Guardiola looks to inject fresh blood in to his squad with Yaya Toure and Fernandinho approaching the end of their careers.

Goretzka is able to play in a variety of positions in midfield and in attack so he’d be a superb addition for any of the Premier League clubs being linked with his signature.

The report suggests that Schalke are expected to try and cash-in this winter rather than lose him for nothing in the summer but Goretzka may decide to run down the final months of his deal in order to secure a lucrative free transfer move.
