Liverpool Boss Confirms Injury Boost But Midfielder Named As Doubt To Face Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed an injury boost ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Chelsea but a midfielder has emerged as a doubt for the game.

Joel Matip Liverpool

Liverpool will need to get over their Champions League capitulation quickly as they take on Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday evening.

The Reds blew a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with the Spaniard’s on Tuesday night but they still go in to the weekend action as the 11/10 favourites to beat Chelsea which I think is excellent value.

Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s offered a team news and injury update.

The Reds boss was pleased to confirm that Joel Matip could be back in contention this weekend after returning to full training yesterday following a thigh injury.

Matip has missed Liverpool’s last two games against Sevilla and Southampton with the minor issue but the centre-back could return to the starting eleven against Chelsea tomorrow evening.

Adam Lallana could also be back in contention as the midfielder looks to make his first appearance of the season after recovering from a serious thigh injury that hampered him since July.

However, Klopp revealed that Emre Can is a doubt for the game this weekend after picking up a minor muscle injury during the Champions League draw at Sevilla on Tuesday night.

Can has been named on the bench for the last two games and was introduced midway through the second half against Sevilla but it seems he’s picked up a knock and could now miss the Chelsea game.

Liverpool head in to the game sitting fifth in the Premier League table and three points adrift of Chelsea but with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino firing in attack, the Merseysiders should be confident of getting a result at Anfield.

The trio are in devastating form and you can get odds of 9/2 on Salah to score the first goal on Saturday, which should be a tempting bet for any Liverpool fan.
