Brighton pulled one back in the 51st minute after being awarded a contentious penalty. Glenn Murray made no mistake from the resulting spot kick to make it 1-3.

However, Liverpool restored their three-goal advantage in the closing stages as Coutinho got the goal he deserved as he rolled a free-kick under the jumping wall to make it 4-1 in the 87th minute.
