Chelsea take on Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge this evening. Here is our preview including team news, line-up and prediction

chelsea news

Chelsea will be looking to secure top spot in Champions League Group C when they take on Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The Blues booked their place in the last-16 of the competition after beating Qarabag last time out but with AS Roma just two points behind, top spot is still up for grabs.

The Italians host Qarabag in tonight’s other Group C game so you’d expect Roma will collect all three points meaning Chelsea will need to beat Atletico to progress as group winners.

If Antonio Conte’s side draw and Roma win the Serie A outfit will secure top due to their superior head-to-head record so Chelsea will be keen to collect all three points this evening.

Atletico arrive in west London knowing they need a minor miracle to snatch second spot as they need to beat Chelsea and hope Roma drop points at home to Qarabag.

Team news

Chelsea will continue to be without David Luiz as the centre-back is still out with a knee injury while Charly Musonda is also unavailable due to his own knee complaint.

Gary Cahill is in-line for a recall at the back with Antonio Rudiger dropping out while Davide Zappacosta and Tiemoue Bakayoko are also pushing for recalls.

Atletico will be without Juanfran due to a hamstring injury while Fernando Torres and Filipe Luis are set to face their former employers.

Expected line-ups

Predicted Score

Chelsea 1-0 Atletico Madrid: Atletico have endured a disappointing campaign so far and I think they know even a win tonight is unlikely to be enough for them to progress so they have little to play for. The Spaniard’s don’t concede many goals so I think this will be a tight game but am backing Chelsea to edge it.
