Man Utd Ready To Hijack Arsenal’s Attempts To Sign £30m Star

Manchester United are ready to make a shock move for Jonny Evans and hijack Arsenal’s attempts to sign the £30m-rated West Brom centre-back this winter

The January transfer window is just around the corner meaning clubs are working hard on potential deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are ready to try and re-sign Jonny Evans…

Manchester United are ready to make a shock move for Jonny Evans and hijack Arsenal’s attempts to sign the £30m-rated West Brom centre-back this winter, according to the Mirror.

Evans spent 11 years at Old Trafford and made almost 200 first team appearances after coming through the clubs youth academy before joining West Brom for £6m in the summer of 2015.

The 29-year-old has proven to be an excellent signing for the Baggies and his impressive form at the Hawthorns led to interest from Arsenal and Manchester City in the summer.

West Brom managed to hold on to the defender but they face a battle to keep Evans once again in January with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal and City are ready to make renewed bids to sign the Northern Ireland international.

Arsene Wenger needs to find a replacement for Per Mertesacker – who’s retiring at the end of the season – while City are also on the look-out for another centre-back due to Vincent Kompany’s on-going injury problems.

However, it looks like the duo will face fresh competition as the Mirror claim that Man Utd are now eyeing a surprise move to re-sign Evans just two-and-a-half years after he was sold by former boss Louis van Gaal.

The newspaper says that Jose Mourinho believes it was a huge mistake by his predecessor to sell Evans and the United boss is now hoping to persuade the defender to return to Old Trafford this winter.

Mourinho is set to enter the market for another centre-back after Eric Bailly was ruled out for at least three months following ankle surgery and there are fears the Ivorian could miss the rest of the season.

It looks like United have identified Evans as a possible replacement but they, along with Arsenal and City, will have to dig deep as the Mirror claim West Brom will demand £30m to sell the defender in January.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I’d be surprised if West Brom are able to hang on to Evans this winter as it will be difficult for them, and the player, to resist when the likes of Arsenal, United and City come calling.
