Liverpool & Man Utd Told They Can Sign Serie A Midfielder In £44m Deal

By on January 16, 2018

The January transfer window is now open so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Nicolo Barella is linked with two English clubs…

Manchester United and Liverpool have been told they can sign Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella if they put an offer worth around £44m on the table this month, according to report in Italy via TeamTalk.

Barella joined Cagliari’s youth system as a youngster and progressed through the ranks before breaking in to the first team set-up in 2015 after making his debut against Parma.

The 20-year-old is now an established member of the starting eleven having made 18 starts in Serie A so far this campaign while he’s also tipped to become a senior international having represented Italy at every youth level from U15 to U21.

The midfielder’s potential has seemingly caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as TeamTalk are citing a report from Corriere dello Sport that claims United and Liverpool have sent scouts to keep an eye on his progress this season.

The Italian outlet says the English duo have made enquiries and have been given encouragement to make formal offers for Barella’s signature as Cagliari look to cash-in on one of their prized assets this month.

However, the Italian youngster won’t come cheap as the report claims that Cagliari have informed United and Liverpool chiefs they will only do business if £44.4m is put on the table.

It remains to be seen whether either club will be prepared to spend that kind of money on Barella but TeamTalk say United are currently considered favourites for his signature – although they could yet face more competition from Juventus.

Jose Mourinho could be ready to dip in to the market for a new midfielder as Marouane Fellaini is set to leave when his contract expires while Jurgen Klopp is always on the look-out for new young talent to strengthen his squad.

It seems the duo are both eyeing Barella but we’ll have to wait and see whether United or Liverpool decide to formalise their interest in the Serie A star over the coming weeks.
