Liverpool & Tottenham In Battle To Sign £20m Midfielder This Month

Liverpool and Tottenham face a fight to land James Maddison this month as Norwich are determined to hold on to the £20m-rated midfielder until the summer

The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, the latest on James Maddison…

Liverpool and Tottenham face a fight to land James Maddison this month as Norwich City are determined to hold on to the £20m-rated midfielder until at least the summer, according to a report in the Express.

Maddison progressed through the youth system at Coventry City before joining Norwich in 2016 and he’s developed in to one of the most exciting young talents outside of the top flight over the past two years.

The 21-year-old is now a first team regular in the Norwich starting eleven and he’s provided 8 goals and 8 assists in his 30 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Maddison’s impressive displays have caught the eye of Premier League clubs with the Express claiming that Liverpool and Tottenham are battling it out to sign the £20m-rated midfielder this month.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to further strengthen his midfield options with Emre Can’s future at Anfield in serious doubt and Maddison would be an exciting long-term addition to the squad if Liverpool could win the race for his signature.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is also in the market for more reinforcements as he looks to add to his talented young squad in north London and Maddison would look to follow in the foot steps of Dele Alli if he joined Spurs.

However, the Premier League duo face a battle to sign the youngster this month as the Express is citing a report from the Sun that claims Norwich are determined to keep hold of Maddison until at least the end of the season.

The Canaries have already lost Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield and Cameron Jerome to Derby County while Yanic Wildschut, Russell Martin and Steven Naismith have left on loan so Daniel Farke won’t want to lose any more players.

Therefore, Norwich will no doubt feel it’s best to keep hold of Maddison as his value will only continue to rise if he keeps up his impressive form during the second half of the season.
