Man Utd In Pole Position Ahead Of Chelsea To Sign £37m South American Star

Manchester United believe they are in pole position ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign £37m-rated Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal in the summer

The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, the latest on Arturo Vidal…

Manchester United believe they are in pole position ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign £37m-rated Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal in the summer, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Vidal has been one of the best all-round midfielders in Europe for several years and he’s continued to impress since joining Bayern from Juventus in 2015.

The Chilean international has scored 21 goals and provided a further 18 assists in 114 games to help win consecutive league and cup doubles while Bayern are on course to lifting another Bundesliga title this campaign.

However, Vidal future at the Allianz Arena is in serious doubt as Bayern have agreed a deal to sign Leon Goretzka in the summer while they also brought in midfielders Corentin Tolisso and Sebastian Rudy last summer.

Vidal has just 18 months left to run on his contract so Bayern are ready to cash-in at the end of the season rather than lose him for nothing in 2019 and the midfielder has attracted interest from the Premier League.

TeamTalk are citing a report from Bild that claims Man Utd are in pole position ahead of Chelsea to land Vidal with Bayern valuing the South American at around £37m.

United have the financial firepower to meet that asking price and Jose Mourinho is in the market for midfield reinforcements as Michael Carrick is due to retire at the end of the season.

Marouane Fellaini is also being tipped to leave after failing to sign a new contract and it looks like Mourinho is hoping to lure Vidal to Old Trafford to play alongside international team-mate Alexis Sanchez.

However, I wouldn’t discount Chelsea from the running just yet as Antonio Conte knows Vidal extremely well from their time together in Italy as the two men helped Juventus win three consecutive Serie A titles.

Vidal is now 30 so his best days may be behind him but he’s still a top class midfielder so I think he’d be an excellent addition for United or Chelsea if they could lure him to England this summer.
