Agent Confirms Arsenal’s Interest In Signing Serie A Star

Daniele Rugani’s agent has confirmed Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing the Juventus centre-back but are yet table a formal offer.

The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Arsenal are linked with Daniele Rugani….

Daniele Rugani’s agent has confirmed Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing the Juventus centre-back but are yet table a formal offer, according to the Express.

Arsene Wenger spent the January window reshaping his attack with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan arriving following the sales of Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott.

However, Wenger was also in the market for defensive reinforcements as Per Mertesacker is retiring in June while Laurent Koscielny has been plagued by a long-term Achilles injury.

A proposed move for Jonny Evans came to nothing but the boss is expected to focus his attention to strengthening his defence this summer and it seems the Frenchman is already putting the ground-work in on potential targets.

The Express cite Rugani’s agent, Davide Torchia, as saying that Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing the Juventus centre-back but are yet to formalise that interest with a firm offer.

Torchia is quoted by the Express as telling Italian TV:

“Daniele’s doing well, I’m happy for him. Arsenal? They didn’t launch any attempts for him.

“They expressed a liking for him but we have respect for Juventus.”

Rugani has emerged as one of the hottest young centre-back’s in Italian football since joining Juventus as a teenager and he enjoyed a hugely successful two-year loan spell at Empoli between 2013 and 2015.

However, the 23-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular first team place under Max Allegri since returning to Juventus and he hasn’t started a Serie A game for the Turin giants since November.

The Italian international is under contract with Juve until 2021 so they are under no pressure to cash-in but I think he’d be a superb addition to the squad if we could somehow lure him to the Emirates this summer.
