Transfer Talk: £90m Attacker Demands Move Amid Interest From Arsenal & Liverpool

By on February 7, 2018

The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Thomas Lemar has demanded to leave Monaco this summer….

Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Thomas Lemar as the £90m-rated attacker has rejected a new contract and told Monaco he wants to move to England this summer, according to reports in France via TeamTalk.

Lemar became one of the most sought after young talents in Europe after scoring 14 goals as well as providing 17 assists to help Monaco land the Ligue 1 title last season.

The 22-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool during the summer transfer window but neither club could agree terms over a deal so Lemar ended up staying in the south of France.

The duo were once again touted as potential suitors throughout January but Monaco made it clear they weren’t prepared to let the French international leave mid-season.

However, the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are being tipped to renew their interest once again this summer and it looks like the English giants have now been handed a major boost.

TeamTalk are citing a report coming from L’Equipe that claims Lemar has turned down a new contract at Monaco and demanded he’s allowed to move to the Premier League at the end of the season.

The report says this news is sure to alert Arsenal and Liverpool but Lemar still has over two years left to run on his contract so Monaco are expected to demand around £90m for his signature this summer.

Arsene Wenger rejuvenated his attacking options last month but the Gunners boss is yet to sign a replacement for Theo Walcott following his move to Everton so the north Londoners could view Lemar as the man to fill the void.

However, Liverpool are reportedly showing the most serious interest in the Frenchman as Jurgen Klopp looks to replace Philippe Coutinho this summer following his big-money move to Barcelona.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Lemar would be a hugely exciting signing for Arsenal or Liverpool if either club was able to get a deal agreed in the summer.
