Man Utd In Talks Over £45m Deal To Sign South American Midfielder

The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd are linked with Fabinho….

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Fabinho after holding talks with Monaco over a possible £45m deal ahead of the summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

Fabinho made his name as a right-back but excelled after being converted in to a holding midfielder and he played a key role in helping Monaco win the Ligue 1 title last season.

The 24-year-old was strongly linked with a move to United last summer but Monaco refused to sell after letting a number of other key players leave and Jose Mourinho eventually signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea.

However, Fabinho reignited speculation over a switch to Old Trafford after confirming last month that the time is right for him to leave Monaco to join a more ambitious club such as United.

It looks like Jose Mourinho has now stepped-up his pursuit as the Mirror are carrying a report from Sky Sports Italia that claims United have opened talks with Monaco over a proposed £45m deal to sign Fabinho this summer.

Mourinho is in the market for midfield reinforcements as Michael Carrick will retire in June while Marouane Fellaini is out-of-contract at the end of the season and is showing no sign of signing an extension.

Fabinho is seemingly on the Portuguese bosses radar and United are reportedly closing-in on an agreement that will see the Brazilian international move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming weeks but I think the South American would be a superb addition for United if they can get a deal agreed as he could form a solid partnership alongside Matic and give Paul Pogba more freedom further forward.
