Arsenal Make Offer To Sign 25-Year-Old International Midfielder

Arsenal have made an offer to re-sign Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to reports

The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Arsenal are linked with Oguzhan Ozyakup….

Arsenal have made an offer to re-sign Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to a report in the Mirror.

Ozyakup originally joined Arsenal in 2008 and progressed through the youth system before making his first team debut during a League Cup win over Shrewsbury Town in 2011.

However, it was a rare outing for the young midfielder as he failed to play a single Premier League game and made just two substitute appearances in the League Cup during his time at the club.

Ozyakup ended up joining Besiktas for around £450,000 in 2012 and he’s taken his opportunity to shine as he’s played over 200 games to help the Black Eagles win 2 Super Lig titles.

The 25-year-old has also been capped 30 times by Turkey at international level having changed his allegiance from Holland – where he was born and who he represented at youth level.

However, Ozyakup’s future at Besiktas is in serious doubt as his contract is due to expire at the end of the season and so far he’s refused to sign an extension with the Turkish giants.

It seems Arsene Wenger has kept an eye on his progress since he left as the Mirror are citing a report emanating from Turkey that claims Arsenal are keen to lure Ozyakup back to north London this summer.

The newspaper says we’ve already put forward a contract offer to Ozyakup and are now waiting to hear back on his final decision ahead of a potential free transfer move to the Emirates.

Wenger is expected to strengthen his midfield options in the summer as Santi Cazorla’s career is in doubt due to his injury woes while we haven’t replaced Francis Coquelin following his January move to Valencia.

Ozyakup would be an interesting option but I’m still not convinced he has the required quality to be a first team regular at Arsenal. We need a world class midfielder to help turn us in to genuine title challengers and Ozyakup would be nothing more than a squad player if he did come back to the club this summer.
