Man Utd Ready To Move For £103m Duo As Mourinho Eyes Double Swoop

By on February 13, 2018

The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Jose Mourinho is planning changes in defence…

Manchester United are eyeing moves for £103m-rated duo Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire as Jose Mourinho looks to sell Chris Smalling and Phil Jones this summer, according to a report by TeamTalk.

United boast the best defence in the Premier League so far this season but it seems Mourinho is still planning to overhaul his options at the back as he tries to compete with Man City.

Eric Bailly has been sorely missed during his injury lay off over the past few months while victor Lindelof has failed to settle following his £35m move from Benfica last summer.

It’s left Jones and Smalling to be United’s regular pairing in the middle of defence but TeamTalk are citing a report from the Mirror that claims Mourinho isn’t convinced by the duo and is looking to sell the England internationals at the end of the season.

The United boss already has replacements in mind as the report says Mourinho is eyeing a double swoop for Real Madrid star Varane and Leicester City centre-back Maguire.

Varane has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and it seems United are finally hoping to land the French international by taking advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Madrid.

The European champions are enduring a difficult campaign and boss Zinadine Zidane is expected to overhaul his squad this summer so Varane could be one of those sacrificed.

TeamTalk cites a report from Spanish outlet Diario Gol that claims Madrid president Florentino Perez is willing to accept a bid of £53m from United – which would be an excellent deal in today’s market.

Varane could be lining-up alongside Maguire at United next season as the report says Mourinho is also eyeing a move for the £50m-rated England international this summer.

Maguire has been hugely impressive since joining Leicester from Hull City last summer and the 24-year-old is developing in to a top class centre-half so he’d be an excellent addition if United could get a deal agreed.

If Van Dyke is worth £75 million plus then Maguire is worth £100 million plus so don’t hold your breath if you expect to get him for £53 million just because you are Man Utd!
