Arsenal and Chelsea are eyeing swoops for Manchester United defender Luke Shaw as talks over a new deal continue to drag, according to the Mirror.

Shaw came through the Southampton youth system and emerged as one of the most exciting young full-backs in Europe which earned him a big-money move to Old Trafford in the summer 2014.

However, his time at United hasn’t gone to plan as a number of injury problems have hampered his progress and have restricted him to making just 59 appearances in all competitions over the past three-and-a-half years.

The 22-year-old was frozen out by Jose Mourinho after the United boss publicly questioned the left-backs fitness and professionalism earlier in the season but Shaw has worked hard to force his way back in to the first team in recent weeks.

It’s led to speculation that United are ready to hand Shaw a new contract with the Mirror claiming they are in talks with his agents about increasing the defenders wages from £80,000-a-week to around £120,000-a-week.

However, negotiations haven’t progressed and with Shaw’s contract set to enter it’s final year this summer, it seems rival clubs are ready to pounce if a deal isn’t reached over the coming months.

The Mirror claims that Arsenal and Chelsea are both ready to launch moves to sign Shaw if he doesn’t pen a new deal at Old Trafford with the duo hoping to lure the England international to the capital.

Arsenal could be in the market for a new left-back as Sead Kolasinac has fallen out-of-favour in recent months while Nacho Monreal turns 32 soon so Arsene Wenger could be eyeing Shaw as a long-term replacement.

Marcos Alonso’s situation at Chelsea is unclear as reports suggest he could head back to Spain this summer so the Blues could also be in need of a new left-back with Shaw also on their radar.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but it looks like if Shaw doesn’t sign a new deal with United soon then Arsenal and Chelsea are ready to try and lure him away this summer.
