Man Utd Ready To Swoop For £35m Star After Opening Talks With Agent

By on February 23, 2018

The January transfer window in closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd hold talks over Jean-Michael Seri…

Manchester United have stepped up their interest in £35m Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri after holding talks with his agent this week, according to the Mirror.

United are expected to sign at least one central midfielder this summer as Michael Carrick is due to retire in June while Marouane Fellaini is out-of-contract at the end of the season and is no closer to signing an extension.

Paul Pogba’s future at Old Trafford has also been cast in doubt as the midfielder has been dropped for United’s last two games amid reports of a bust-up with Jose Mourinho.

The United boss has been publicly critical of Pogba’s performances recently and it’s led to speculation the French international could push for a move this summer if the pair don’t resolve their differences.

A number of players have been linked with a move to United in recent months but Seri is emerging as a prime target and it looks like Mourinho has now stepped up his interest.

The Mirror claim that after monitoring the 26-year-old for several months, United chiefs opened talks with Seri’s agents this week to discuss a potential move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The newspaper report says Seri has a £35m buyout clause in his contract and Mourinho wants to sign the Ivory Coast international this summer to bolster his midfield options as he looks to build a squad capable of competing with Man City.

Seri has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in Europe since joining Nice and his form has attracted interest from several top clubs including Barcelona – who came close to signing him last summer.

Mourinho has expressed his desire to have a top class box-to-box midfielder in his team and Seri fits the bill perfectly so it makes sense that United are hoping to lure the Ivorian to Old Trafford.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Seri would be a superb buy at just £35m if United manage to win the race for his signature this summer.
