Arsenal fans have been destroying Shkodran Mustafi on Twitter after the defender’s mistake gifted Man City the opening goal in the Carabao Cup final

Arsenal fans have been destroying Shkodran Mustafi on Twitter after the defender’s schoolboy mistake gifted Manchester City the opening goal in the Carabao Cup final this afternoon.

It was a close opening 15 minutes and we were right in the game but some shocking defending from Mustafi allowed Sergio Aguero to race clear to give City an 18th minute lead.

Mustafi failed to get goal-side of the Argentinean international from a goal-kick and didn’t even make an attempt to win the header as Aguero raced on to Claudio Bravo’s kick to lob over David Ospina for 1-0.

It was truly woeful defending from Mustafi and understandably he’s come under huge criticism from Arsenal fans with large numbers taking to Twitter to vent their frustration at the German international.

In truth, none of the Arsenal players covered themselves in glory today as we put-in a poor overall performance with City easing to a 3-0 victory thanks to second half goals from Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

However, it’s a case of what might have been had Mustafi defended that goal kick properly so it’s understandable why so many fans have been trashing the centre-back on social media.
