The January transfer window in closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Liverpool and Man Utd are linked with Jorginho…

Liverpool are ready to battle-it-out with Manchester United over a deal to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho this summer, according to the Mirror.

Jorginho has developed in to one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe since joining Napoli from Verona in 2014 and he’s also now a regular in the senior Italian squad.

The 26-year-old’s impressive form has alerted clubs here in England with the Express reporting last week that Manchester United were favourites to sign Jorginho this summer.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for midfield reinforcements as Michael Carrick is set to retire while Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in June and is yet to sign an extension, and a player like Jorginho could also help get the best out of Paul Pogba.

It looked like Mourinho was pressing ahead with a deal as the Express say United have opened talks with Jorginho’s agent about a potential move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

However, United will now face stiff competition as the Mirror are citing a report from The Times that claims Liverpool have joined the race to sign the Italian international this summer.

Jurgen Klopp is also expected to be in the market for another midfielder as Emre Can is out of contract in June and has been heavily linked with Juventus so it seems the Reds boss has lined-up Jorginho as a potential replacement.
