Deal On? Italian Star Has Head Turned By Interest From Man Utd & Chelsea

Alessandro Florenzi has refused to open talks with AS Roma over a new contract after having his head turned by interest from Manchester United and Chelsea

The January transfer window in closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd and Chelsea are linked with Alessandro Florenzi…

Alessandro Florenzi has refused to open talks with AS Roma over a new contract after having his head turned by interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, according to a report in the Mirror.

Florenzi has been with Roma for his entire professional career having progressed through the youth ranks before breaking in to the first team set-up in 2011.

The 26-year-old has been an established part of the starting eleven for several years having made over 200 appearances and has also racked up 25 caps for the Italian national team.

Florenzi made his name as a central midfielder but has been impressing at right-back this season having been converted to an attack-minded full-back by boss Eusebio Di Francesco.

The Italian star’s future at the Stadio Olimpico is in serious doubt as his current contract has less than 18 months left to run and Roma are desperate to tie him down to a new extension.

However, despite the Serie A outfit being willing to offer him a lucrative long-term contract, the Mirror are citing reports coming from Corriere dello Sport that claims Florenzi has refused to even open talks over a new deal.

The Italian outlet says the reason for this snub is because Florenzi has had his head turned by interest from Manchester United and Chelsea so a move to England could now be on the cards.

If the full-back continues with his refusal to sign a new deal over the coming months then Roma will have to cash-in this summer or risk losing Florenzi for nothing in 2019.

Jose Mourinho needs to find a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia as he turns 33 this year and Florenzi could switch positions with compatriot Matteo Darmian – who’s set to leave after being frozen out at Old Trafford.

However, Chelsea are also expected to revamp their squad this summer following a relatively disappointing campaign and Florenzi could be seen as the man to challenge Victor Moses for the right wing-back position at Stamford Bridge.
