Man Utd In Talks Over Potential £160m Triple Swoop As Mourinho Plots Summer Spree

Manchester United have made contact with Barcelona to discuss a potential £160m triple swoop for Andre Gomes, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Samuel Umtiti

The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are ready to raid Barcelona

Manchester United have made contact with Barcelona to discuss a potential £160m triple swoop on the Spanish giants this summer, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Jose Mourinho’s side currently sit second in the Premier League table and are still in the Champions League but the United boss knows he needs to further strengthen this summer if they’re to compete with Man City.

It looks like Mourinho is already working on his transfer targets as TeamTalk are citing a report from Don Balon that claims they’ve held talks with Barca about signing Andre Gomes, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Samuel Umtiti.

Of the three, the Spanish publication suggests that Barca are most keen to sell Gomes as the Portuguese midfielder has struggled to establish himself since moving to the Nou Camp.

United are expected to sign at least one midfielder this summer as Michael Carrick will retire while Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in June and the report says Gomes could be snapped-up for just £26.75m [€30m].

A new centre-back is also on the agenda as speculation suggests Chris Smalling and Phil Jones could leave this summer and Umtiti has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months.

The French international has been an excellent signing for Barca since joining from Lyon but talks over a new deal are dragging and TeamTalk claim he has a £53.5m [€60m] release clause in his current contract.

Reports suggest that Barcelona are struggling to match Umtiti’s demands so United could look to take advantage by offering the defender a lucrative deal to move to England this summer.

Finally, the report says Mourinho has lined-up Ter Stegen as a potential replacement for David De Gea in-case they are unable to tie their No.1 down to a new deal and he pushes for a move to Real Madrid.

United will obviously do all they can to persuade the Spanish international to sign a new contract but it makes sense for them to put a contingency plan in place and Ter Stegen would be a top class replacement.

The German international has been in great form for the Catalans this season and TeamTalk suggest he would cost around £80m [€90m] meaning United would have to spend around £160m if they wanted to sign all three players.
