Manchester United will be looking to cement their position in second place when they take on Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.

Here is the team I think Jose Mourinho will pick for the game:

Goalkeeper: David De Gea is certain to keep his place between the sticks as he’s probably the first name on Mourinho’s team sheet.

Defence: Victor Lindelof has found himself back in the starting eleven in recent weeks as Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have been on the sidelines through injury.

The defensive duo remain doubtful for the visit of Liverpool on Saturday but Eric Bailly is pushing for a recall after returning to full fitness and the Ivorian could partner Chris Smalling on Saturday.

Antonio Valencia should retain his place at right-back while Ashley Young is favourite to start at left-back once again ahead of Luke Shaw.

Midfield: Mourinho has played with three central midfielders in recent games and I think that system suits Paul Pogba so we’ll probably see that formation again on Saturday.

Nemanja Matic scored a stunning late winner during the comeback victory over Crystal Palace on Monday night so he’ll no doubt keep his place in front of the defence.

Marouane Fellaini is out with a knee problem while Ander Herrera is also on the sidelines with a hamstring issue so Scott McTominay should keep his place in midfield.

Attack: Romelu Lukaku has been back among the goals in recent weeks so the Belgian international will be hoping to cause Liverpool problems this weekend.

Alexis Sanchez has enjoyed a mixed start to life at Old Trafford following his January move from Arsenal but he’ll keep his place in attack against Liverpool.

Jesse Lingard started against Palace at Selhurst Park last time out but Mourinho could be tempted to freshen things up on Saturday.

Anthony Martial is a doubt after missing the Palace game with a knock so Juan Mata could get the nod over Marcus Rashford – who’s struggled for starts in recent months.

Here is how we think United will line-up:
