TERRY AXED AS ENGLAND CAPTAIN

By Football Talk.

John Terry has been axed as England Captain by manager Fabio Capello following a short meeting at Wembley today, according to a senior FA official.

The anonymous source claims Capello told Terry he wanted a new captain to move forward heading into the World Cup.The FA are due to confirm the news shortly.

Steven Gerrard is the favourite to replace Terry, with Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard also in contention.

***UPDATE***

Fabio Capello has confirmed his decision to axe John Terry as England captain, claiming his decision was based on ‘what was best for the whole England team’. Capello also stated that he made the decision on a vice captain when he took the England managers job and he had no reason to change this. Rio Ferdinand is the current vice-captain so it looks like he is now the favourite to be promoted to Captain and lead England in the World Cup.
