Manchester United are ready to splash £70m on the signing of Napoli midfielder Jorginho and Southampton defender Cedric Soares this summer, according to the Mirror.
Jose Mourinho knows he needs to strengthen his squad if United are to compete with the likes of Manchester City for top honours next season and central midfield has become a priority.
Michael Carrick will retire at the end of the season while Marouane Fellaini is expected to walk away on a free transfer when his contract expires meaning United could be in the market for two midfielders.
Jorginho has emerged as a key target ahead of the likes of Fred and Jean Michael-Seri and the Mirror claim that United are hoping to trump City to the Napoli stars signature this summer.
The newspaper says City have already held talks with the 26-year-old representatives but United are ready to hijack the move by making an approach of their own and Jorginho is understood to be keen on moving to the Premier League.
Napoli will be reluctant to lose the midfielder as he’s been a key player for the Italians in recent years so the Mirror suggest it will take an offer of £50m to tempt the Serie A giants in to a deal.
Obviously United and City have the financial firepower to meet that asking price so it looks like it’s going to be a straight shoot-out between the Manchester duo to land Jorginho this summer.
Mourinho is also in the market for another right-back as Antonio Valencia turns 33 in August and the Mirror claim Soares has been identified as a possible long-term replacement.
The Portuguese defender has been impressing at a struggling Southampton side this season and the newspaper says Mourinho is ready to launch a £20m move to sign the 26-year-old.
Southampton are in real danger of dropping to the Championship so they are likely to lose their key players and Soares would no doubt jump of the chance of joining United.
