Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge this afternoon. Here is our preview with the latest team news, line-ups, prediction and betting

chelsea news

Chelsea will be looking to close in on the top four with a win when Liverpool arrive at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The Blues head in to the game sitting five points adrift of Tottenham and six off Liverpool with a game in hand on their rivals so victory today would blow the race for the top four wide open.

A draw won’t be good enough for Antonio Conte’s side as they have a far worse goal difference compared to Liverpool and Spurs so we should see the hosts going for it this afternoon.

Liverpool head to the capital in buoyant mood after booking their place in the Champions League final with a thrilling 7-6 aggregate victory over AS Roma on Wednesday night.

The Reds lost the second leg 4-2 at the Stadio Olimpico but they still booked a date with Real Madrid in Kiev thanks to their stunning 5-2 win at Anfield so Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to put the icing on the cake by sealing a top four place with a positive result this afternoon.

Team News

Marcos Alonso returns for Chelsea after serving his three-game suspension and Danny Drinkwater is available again after recovering from a groin injury.

However, David Luiz is still out with a long-term knee injury while Ethan Ampadu is also unavailable.

Liverpool have injury problems of their own as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Emre Can and Joel Matip won’t play again this season while Joe Gomez is also struggling with an ankle injury.

Adam Lallana is back in training after recovering from a hamstring problem.

Predicted Score

Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool: The Blues are winless in their last six league meetings with Liverpool and there is no doubt the Reds having been playing the better football in recent months. However, Wednesday’s match will have taken a lot out of the Merseysiders and I think that could prove crucial in this game. I’m backing Chelsea to edge it 2-1 and keep alive their top four hopes.
