Coutinho Replacement: Liverpool Eyeing Swoop For 25-Year-Old South American

The summer transfer window is about to open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Manuel Lanzini…

Liverpool are interested in signing West Ham attacker Manuel Lanzini as Jurgen Klopp looks to finally land a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, according to the Mirror.

Klopp failed to sign another attacking midfielder following Coutinho’s big-money move to Barcelona during the January transfer window after deciding to wait until the summer to pursue his targets.

The Reds boss is now pressing ahead with his transfer business and the Mirror claim Liverpool have a long-standing interest in signing Lanzini from West Ham.

The Merseysiders have been strongly linked with Lyon star Nabil Fekir in recent weeks but the newspaper says Lanzini is also a target as Klopp lines-up a formal move for the South American.

Lanzini joined the Hammers on loan from Al Jazira Club in 2015 and did enough during his first season in English football to earn a permanent switch to the London Stadium the following year.

The Argentinean attacker provided 5 goals and 6 assists last season to help West Ham secure their top flight status for another year and his impressive form could now earn him a blockbuster move to Anfield.

The 25-year-old is predominantly an attacking central midfielder but, like Coutinho, he’s also capable of playing from the left so he’d give Klopp plenty of options if he does end up joining Liverpool this summer.

Klopp has one of the best attacks in Europe at his disposal but he needs more depth behind the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah if Liverpool are to compete on all fronts next season, and Lanzini would be a solid addition.
