Liverpool & Man Utd Told To Pay £62m After Holding Talks Over Signing Serie A Star

Liverpool and Manchester United have been told they’ll have to pay £62m to sign Federicho Chiesa after holding talks with Fiorentina over the forward’s availability, according to to reports in Italy via TeamTalk.

Chiesa is the son of Calcio legend Enrico and he’s emerged from his fathers shadow to become one of the hottest properties in Italian football since progressing through the Fiorentina youth system. The 20-year-old has now established himself as a first team regular under Stefano Pioli having provided 6 goals and 9 assists in all competitions last season to help La Viola finish eighth in Serie A while he’s also broken in to the senior Italian national team set-up.

The youngsters potential has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as TeamTalk claim Liverpool and Man Utd are among those to have made contact with Fiorentina to express an interest in signing Chiesa.

However, the Italians aren’t ready to let their star man leave on the cheap and the report cites Gazzetta dello Sport as saying that Fiorentina have made it clear it will take an offer of £62m [€70m] to tempt them in to a sale this summer.

That price-tag is significantly higher than the £44m Chelsea were reported quoted earlier this year so it seems Fiorentina are looking to get top dollar if they are forced to cash-in on Chiesa over the coming months as they would prefer to keep hold of him for at least another year.

United have the financial firepower to meet Fiorentina’s valuation but it remains to be seen whether they will sanction such a big-money move when Jose Mourinho has several other positions that need to be addressed this summer.

Jurgen Klopp is in the market for another attacker as he needs competition for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane next season if Liverpool are to compete on all fronts and it seems the Merseysiders are also eyeing Chiesa.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Liverpool or United will be prepared to meet Fiorentina’s asking price for the Italian winger but he looks to have a huge future ahead of him so he could be seen as a good long-term investment.
