Arsenal Agree Deal To Sign Liverpool Target As Emery Closes-In On £48m Double Swoop

Arsenal have agreed a deal worth around £22m to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper and Liverpool target Bernd Leno this summer, according to reports

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Bernd Leno…

Arsenal have agreed a deal worth around £22m to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper and Liverpool target Bernd Leno this summer, according to CalcioMercato.

Leno has been once of the most consistent keepers in German football in recent years and he kept an impressive 10 clean sheets in his 33 Bundesliga appearances last season to help Leverkusen finish 5th in the table. The 26-year-old has also been capped by the German national team but was surprisingly left out of Joachim Low’s World Cup squad with Manuel Neuer, Andre Ter Stegen, and Kevin Trapp the three keepers selected.

Leno’s promising form has attracted interest from several clubs this summer with CalcioMercato claiming that Arsenal, Liverpool and Napoli has all been battling to sign the player in recent weeks. Napoli appeared to be emerging as favourites but the report says they failed to agree terms over a fee with Leverkusen which has opened the door for Arsenal.

The Gunners have wasted no time in making their move as the Italian publication claims that Arsenal have now agreed a fee in the region of £22m to sign Leno while personal terms have also been agreed with the player.

Unai Emery has been in the market for a new number one as Petr Cech is now 36 and coming towards the end of his illustrious career and it looks like Leno is set to be the Czech international’s long-term successor.

The news will be a blow to Liverpool as they had seemingly identified Leno as a cheaper alternative to the likes of Alisson Becker and Jan Oblak as Jurgen Klopp looks to sign a new keeper following Loris Karius’s horror show in the Champions League final.

However, it looks like the Merseysiders will have to continue their search as Leno is expected to complete a move to the Emirates and CalcioMercato says he’ll be followed by midfielder Lucas Torreira after Arsenal also agreed a £26m deal for his signature with Sampdoria. More on that deal can be found here.

It means the north Londoners are ready to spend around £48m on Leno and Torreira which would be excellent business and fill two positions they badly need to strengthen this summer.
