Man Utd Given Green Light To Sign Key Mourinho Target In £54m Deal

Jose Mourinho could finally sign Raphael Varane as Real Madrid will give Manchester United the go-ahead to sign the centre-back for £54m this summer

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Raphael Varane…

Jose Mourinho could finally land Raphael Varane as Real Madrid are ready to give Manchester United the go-ahead to sign the centre-back for £54m this summer, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Mourinho has already agreed deals to sign right-back Diogo Dalot from Porto and midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk but he knows he needs to further strengthen his squad if United are to compete with Manchester City after finishing 19 points behind the Premier League champions last season.

A new central defender is believed to be a priority as Victor Lindelof is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford after failing to establish himself following his move from Benfica last year and United need to find a long-term partner for Eric Bailly as he hasn’t gelled with Phil Jones or Chris Smalling.

United have been strongly linked with Toby Alderweireld but reports earlier this week suggested that Mourinho had lined-up a list of alternatives due to Tottenham’s hefty valuation and Varane was believed to be among his top targets.

Varane has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford as Mourinho was the man in charge at Madrid when he joined from Lens and the Portuguese coach has been keen for a reunion ever since taking over at United.

It looks like Mourinho could finally get his man as TeamTalk are citing a report from Don Balon that claims Madrid will give United the green light to sign Varane this summer if they meet their £54m asking price.

The Spanish outlet – who are known to make some bold transfer claims – suggest that new Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui wants to sell Varane and replace him with want-away Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng – who’s also been linked with United.

We’ll have to wait and see how much truth there is behind these reports but Varane would be a superb addition for United if they could get a deal agreed and I’m sure Mourinho would jump at the chance of signing the French international if he was on the market.
