Liverpool Make Enquiries As Klopp Eyes £18m Swoop For International Star

Liverpool have stepped-up their interest in Nick Pope as Jurgen Klopp eyes a summer swoop for the £18m-rated Burnley goalkeeper

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Nick Pope…

Liverpool have stepped-up their interest in Nick Pope as Jurgen Klopp eyes a summer swoop for the £18m-rated Burnley goalkeeper, according to the Mirror.

Klopp is in the market for a new number one as Simon Mignolet is expected to leave Anfield after losing his place last season while the future of Loris Karius is in doubt following his horror-show against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The young German stopper made two huge errors as the Reds lost-out to the Spanish giants and while Karius may yet stay at Liverpool he’s unlikely to keep hold of the first team jersey so Klopp is on the look out for a reliable number one this summer.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Alisson Becker but with Roma demanding huge money for the Brazilian international, Klopp is looking for alternatives and Pope has emerged as a possible target.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks as he’s gone from playing in League Two with Bury Town to being a regular for Burnley in the Premier League in just seven years.

Pope was in outstanding form for Sean Dyche’s men to help them finish seventh in the table last season and his performances led to an England debut against Costa Rica and a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

It seems Pope has also caught the attention of Klopp as the Mirror claim that Liverpool have now stepped-up their interest in the keeper by making enquiries over his personality and mentality ahead of a potential swoop.

The newspaper says that although Liverpool know all about Pope’s footballing ability, they want to do extensive background checks on him away from the pitch before making any formal move for his signature.

The Mirror suggests that Burnley will want £18m to sell their star man and that sort of money would make Pope a lot cheaper than the likes of Alisson so he may be a tempting proposition for Liverpool.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks as no transfer will happen while Pope is with the England squad in Russia but I think he’d be a solid addition to the Liverpool squad if they end up buying him this summer.
