Player In London Undergoing Medical With Arsenal After Agreeing 5-Year Contract

Bernd Leno is in London undergoing his medical with Arsenal after agreeing terms over a five-year contract ahead of his £19.3m move

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Bernd Leno is on the verge of joining Arsenal

Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno is in London undergoing his medical with Arsenal after agreeing terms over a five-year contract ahead of his £19.3m move, according to the Express.

Unai Emery has been looking to bring in a new first choice goalkeeper to replace Petr Cech this summer as the 36-year-old’s form has slowly been declining while number two David Ospina has failed to convince that he’s the answer to our problems between the sticks.

Leno has emerged as a prime target in recent weeks with widespread speculation suggesting that we’ve been in talks with Leverkusen and the Express claims that a £19.3m deal has now been agreed with the Bundesliga outfit.

It seems the transfer is now on the verge of completion as the newspaper is citing a SportBild journalist as saying that Leno has been in London on Tuesday undergoing his medical with Arsenal.

The German journo also claimed that Leno has agreed terms over a five-year contract and the transfer is expected to be announced on Wednesday as Emery closes in on his second major signing of the summer having already snapped-up Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer.

Leno has been one of the most consistent keepers in German football since joining Leverkusen in 2011 and he kept 10 clean sheets in his 33 games last season to help the club qualify for the Europa League.

The 26-year-old was unfortunate to miss out on a place in the German World Cup squad but I think he’ll be an excellent addition to the Arsenal team and will certainly be an upgrade on Cech and Ospina.

Leno won’t be the last new arrival at the Emirates this summer as we’re also reportedly on the verge of signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund and midfielder Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria so it’s going to be a busy few weeks ahead.
