Manchester United Given Go-Ahead To Sign French Star In £53m Deal

Manchester United could finally land Raphael Varane after Real Madrid decided to cash-in on the French international if £53m is put on the table.

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Manchester United are linked with Raphael Varane…

Manchester United have been given the go-ahead to finally sign long-term target Raphael Varane in a £53m deal from Real Madrid this summer, according to reports from Spain via TeamTalk.

Jose Mourinho has already signed goalkeeper Lee Grant, right-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred so far this summer but the Man Utd boss knows he needs to further strengthen his squad if they’re to challenge for the title next season after finishing 19 points adrift of Manchester City last year.

A new central defender is believed to be a priority as doubts persist over Chris Smalling and Phil Jones while Victor Lindelof is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford after enduring a disappointing first season in England following his move from Benfica 12 months ago so Mourinho is on the look out for a long-term partner for Eric Bailly.

Man Utd have been strongly linked with Toby Alderweireld but with Tottenham demanding big money for the Belgian international Mourinho is on the look out for alternatives and he could finally get his hands on one of his long-term targets.

Varane has been linked with United for some time as Mourinho was the man in charge at Madrid when he joined the La Liga giants from Lens in 2011 and the Portuguese coach has reportedly been keen on a reunion since taking over at Old Trafford.

TeamTalk are now citing reports from Don Balon that claim Manchester United have been given the green light to sign Varane this summer after Madrid decided to cash-in on the injury prone centre-back.

The 25-year-old has suffered a number of niggling injuries throughout his career and is yet to play 30 league games in a single season so the Spanish publication says Madrid are ready to sell the £53m-rated star and replace him with a more reliable defender.

We’ll have to wait and see whether United now decide to step-up their interest in signing Varane but despite his injury problems, I think the French international would be a superb addition to their squad if they could get a deal agreed.
