Arsenal Boss Fears Liverpool Will Hijack Move To Sign 22-Year-Old Star

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is concerned Premier League rivals Liverpool will hijack his attempts to sign German midfielder Max Meyer this summer

The summer transfer window is in full swing and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are worried Liverpool will sign Max Meyer…

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is concerned Premier League rivals Liverpool will hijack his attempts to sign German midfielder Max Meyer this summer, according to reports by TeamTalk.

Meyer joined Schalke as a child and worked his way through their youth ranks before emerging as one of the most exciting young talents in German football after he broke in to the first team set-up in 2013. The 22-year-old made his name as an attacking midfielder but excelled in a deeper role under Domenico Tedesco last season.

The German international made almost 200 first team appearances for Schalke but he’s now on the look out for a new club after failing to agree terms over an extension at the Veltins Arena and is a free agent after his contract expires at the end of June.

Meyer has attracted interest from England as TeamTalk cite reports from Bild that claims Arsenal and Liverpool have both been chasing his signature this summer but were being put-off by his £4m-per-year wage demands.

Arsenal are still keen to secure a free transfer for the midfielder before the start of the new season but TeamTalk cite a report from Transfermarketweb that says Emery is concerned Liverpool will also launch a fresh attempt to sign Meyer over the coming weeks.

Emery has already snapped-up midfield duo Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi this summer but after losing Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, it seems the Gunners boss is still keen on further reinforcements and Meyer is a prime target.

However, Jurgen Klopp is also a huge fan of his compatriot’s and could still lure Meyer to Anfield despite also signing two new midfielders in Naby Keita and Fabinho this summer.

Emre Can has left Liverpool for Juventus while there is speculation surrounding the future of Georgino Wijnaldum so Klopp could be eyeing a bargain swoop for Meyer as a replacement.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but it seems Meyer has two of England’s biggest clubs vying for his signature and I think he’d be an exciting addition if either Arsenal or Liverpool were able to get a deal agreed.
