Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele could join Arsenal this summer as Sven Mislintat looks to secure the clubs ‘dream’ summer signing, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Unai Emery has already landed five new additions to the squad with Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi, Bernd Leno, Sokratis and Stephan Lichtsteiner making moves to north London recently but the boss is still hoping to further strengthen before the new campaign begins.

The Spaniard needs to sell before he can buy and with attackers such as Joel Campbell, Danny Welbeck, Chuba Akpom and Lucas Perez all being linked with moves away, a new wide attacker is reportedly on the agenda.

Dembele has emerged as a target as he’s been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months amid speculation he could be on the move just 12 months after joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund.

The French international was one of the hottest young talents in the world when he joined the Catalans in a deal that could reach £135m last summer but his time at the Nou Camp hasn’t gone according to plan.

A serious hamstring injury saw Dembele miss the first half of last season and he struggled to establish himself in Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven when he returned to full fitness having made just 6 La Liga starts last campaign.

It looks like Arsenal are hoping to offer Dembele the chance to resurrect his career in north London as TeamTalk are citing Football London journalist Charlie Watts as saying that head of recruitment Sven Mislintat sees him as a ‘dream’ signing.

Watts acknowledges that it is virtually impossible for Arsenal to afford a permanent deal but we could yet land Dembele if Barcelona are willing to let him leave on loan this summer.

The journalist is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:

“Dembele on his own would cost far more than whatever money comes in from those potential sales,”

“Mislintat would love Dembele, that would be his dream signing and he would slot in perfectly as well.

“But unless Barca decide to send him out on loan, it’s not going to happen.”

Dembele is predominantly a right winger but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attack so he’d be a superb addition to the squad if we could manage to sign him on a short-term basis before the window closes.

However, it all depends on Barcelona and what their plans are. The Spaniard’s may be open to a loan as that would give Dembele the chance to play regular football and regain his confidence before returning to the Nou Camp or they may decide now is the time to cash-in. Let’s hope it’s the former.

Some fans just wish Arsenal could be bought over by a big Shiekh and all this “suffering” would end… right?

We have a coach who has already done well on a shoestring budget as well as an “unlimited budget”

Arsenal is somewhere in between the two extremes.

Unless we are hoping for a Leicester-esque title, it is nearly
impossible to compete against the big spenders.

Our goal for now should be to not fall back the Europa Trap door

—Stop wishing for expensive players that Arsenal cannot afford.
    —Unearth your own next superstar
—Budget moderately, sell some, buy some, keep the superstars
—Conduct smart innovative coaching to improve player fitness and skills and reduce injuries
—keep a good number of motivated squad/fringe players on board
—Execute game-specific tactics against the very best teams
—Convincingly annihilate the weaker teams i.e. 4-0 5-0 etc.
—Five teams finished ahead of us last season, so we have to assume that top four is a lofty goal, sorry but that’s the truth
