Liverpool Transfer News: Klopp Eyeing Surprise Swoop For 6ft 7in Guyana Star

Liverpool are eyeing a shock swoop to sign Barnet goalkeeper Kai McKenznie-Lyle as Jurgen Klopp continues to revamp his options between the sticks

The summer transfer window is in full swing and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Kai McKenzie-Lyle….

Liverpool are eyeing a shock swoop to sign unknown Barnet goalkeeper Kai McKenznie-Lyle as Jurgen Klopp continues to revamp his options between the sticks, according to the Mirror.

Goalkeeper has been a problem position for Liverpool ever since Klopp’s arrival as Simon Mignolet fell out of favour mid-way through last season and Loris Karius failed to take his chance after making two costly mistakes during the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Klopp has solved his issue in goal after splashing out a world record £66m on Alisson Becker from Roma with the Brazilian international set to be named Liverpool’s new number one this coming season after developing in to one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe.

One of Mignolet or Karius were expected to leave this summer to make room for Alisson, however, there are reports via the Express today that claim Liverpool are ready to sell BOTH goalkeepers before the transfer window closes.

The newspaper says Besiktas and Barcelona are showing a keen interest in signing Mignolet while Bayer Leverkusen are seemingly ready to offer Karius a fresh start but with Danny Ward already out the exit door, Klopp will suddenly find himself short of options if both keepers leave.

It looks like the German coach could bolster his ranks with a surprise name as the Mirror claim that Liverpool are eyeing a shock swoop to sign  non-league goalkeeper Kai McKenznie-Lyle.

The 20-year-old joined Barnet in 2014 but has made just a handful of appearances as he’s spent time out on loan with Cockfosters, St Ives Town and Hayes & Yeading United in recent years.

The Guyana international had been expected to remain at Barnet this season to challenge for the first team shirt but now Liverpool could offer him a dream move to Anfield if they decide to formalise their interest.

The Express claim Liverpool offered McKenznie-Lyle a trial and he played during their U23’s 1-1 draw with Hungarian side ETO Gyor on Sunday but it remains to be seen whether a permanent move will be agreed.

McKenznie-Lyle stands at 6ft 7in so he certainly has the physique to be a goalkeeper but if Liverpool do end up signing the giant stopper then I expect he’ll play for their U23 side rather than be part of the first team squad.

Therefore, unless Liverpool also sign another more experienced goalkeeper, I don’t think we’ll see both Mignolet and Karius leaving Anfield this summer as it would leave them short of options between the sticks.
