From France: Chelsea Ready To Trump Liverpool With Late Swoop To Sign £50m Star

Chelsea are eyeing a late swoop to sign Liverpool target Nabil Fekir as Lyon prepare to cash-in on the £50m-rated attacking midfielder this summer

The summer transfer window is drawing to a close and managers are working hard to secure last minute deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with Liverpool target Nabil Fekir…

Chelsea are eyeing a late swoop to sign Liverpool target Nabil Fekir as Lyon prepare to cash-in on the £50m-rated attacking midfielder this summer, according to reports in France via the Mirror.

Fekir enjoyed a superb campaign last year that saw him provide 23 goals and 8 assists to help Lyon finish third in the Ligue 1 table and his form saw him earn a place in the French squad that went on to lift the World Cup in Russia last month.

The 25-year-old also attracted interest from Liverpool as the Merseysiders came close to signing Fekir in a £53m deal shortly before the World Cup begin in June but the proposed deal collapsed due to concerns over an old knee injury that was flagged up in the medical.

Liverpool have continued to monitor Fekir’s situation and the Mirror claim they remain interested in taking the playmaker to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to finally replace Philippe Coutinho following his January move to Barcelona.

Reports on Monday morning suggested Liverpool could yet make a late play to resurrect the move for Fekir as Lyon are willing to sell this month, however, it looks like they’ll now face some stiff competition for the midfielder’s signature.

The Mirror are citing a report from France Football that claims Chelsea are now eyeing a late move to sign the Frenchman after identifying him as a potential target during the closing stages of the window.

Maurizio-Sarri-chelsea

Maurizio Sarri signed Jorginho last month but the Blues boss has confirmed he’s still looking to sign another midfielder to play alongside the Italian and N’Golo Kante and it seems Fekir has emerged as a prime target.

The player returned to pre-season training this afternoon and stated he’s content at Lyon but as long as the transfer window remains open he’s refused to rule out the possibility of leaving the Ligue 1 club this month.

Fekir is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“As you can see, I am in Lyon. I am very happy here. But the transfer window is still long and everything goes very quickly in football. We don’t know what will happen in the future but I am very happy at Lyon.

The Mirror suggest that Lyon will demand at least £50m for Fekir and if Chelsea make a formal move for his signature it will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to renew their interest in the midfielder.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing a lot of rumours surrounding Fekir as we head in to the final stages of the window and I think he’d be a superb signing for either Liverpool or Chelsea if they could get a deal agreed.
