Harry Maguire still hopes to join Manchester United this summer despite Leicester City rejecting a £60m offer from the Red Devils, according to Sky Sports News.

Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in at least one more player before the transfer window shuts on Thursday evening after being left frustrated with United’s lack of action so far this summer with Brazilian midfielder Fred the only significant new addition to the squad.

A new centre-back is reportedly a priority as Marcos Rojo is being linked with a move to Everton while Mourinho still has doubts over the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof and United have been showing an interest in several players over the past few weeks.

The likes of Yerry Mina, Jerome Boateng and Toby Alderweireld have all been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford but Maguire has also been touted as a potential target after enjoying an excellent World Cup with England.

The Daily Mail reported last week that Man Utd had opened talks with Leicester and were confident of getting a deal agreed in the region of £65m – although TeamTalk suggested the Foxes were holding out for nearer £80m.

It looks like United have formalised their interest but will have to dig a little deeper as Sky Sports News journalist Kaveh Solhekol says one of his sources claims Leicester have rejected a £60m bid from the Manchester giants.

However, despite the setback, Solhekol says Maguire is still hoping a deal can be agreed for him to join the Old Trafford club before the window slams shut tomorrow evening.

We’ll have to wait and see if United return with a higher offer but it seems Maguire is keen to make the move and the 25-year-old would be an excellent addition to Mourinho’s squad.

Maguire has enjoyed a meteoric rise since coming through the youth system at Sheffield United as he had three solid years at Hull City before enhancing his reputation following his £17m move to Leicester last summer.

The defender was hugely impressive for England this summer as he played a key role in their march to the semi-finals and it would cap a stunning 12 months if he could secure a move to United.
