Man Utd Team News Update: Mourinho Confirms 7 Players Will Miss Brighton Clash

Jose Mourinho has confirmed 7 players will miss Manchester United’s clash with Brighton at the Amex Stadium this weekend.

Manchester United will look to build on their win over Leicester when they take on Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a full team news and injury update ahead of the game.

The United boss confirmed that Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia all returned to full training on Thursday but none of the trio are fit enough for selection this weekend.

Lingard missed the opening win over Leicester at Old Trafford after returning late to pre-season following his participation at the World Cup with England and the midfielder isn’t ready to be in contention just yet.

Matic also missed the win over the Foxes after undergoing surgery last month having picked up an abdominal injury while representing his country in Russia this summer and the Brighton game also comes too soon for him.

Valencia was forced to return home early from United’s pre-season tour after suffering a calf injury and although the right-back is now in full training, he’s still not fit enough for the trip to the South Coast on Sunday.

Mourinho told ManUtd.com:

“Lingard, Matic and Valencia have been training with the team since yesterday [Thursday]. [They are] fully fit but not yet [ready] to play or even to be selected, I think, and that’s it.”

In addition to this, goalkeeper Sergio Romero remains out following knee surgery, Marcos Rojo is also still unavailable with a knock that kept him out of the Leicester game while Ander Herrera is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Summer signing Diogo Dalot is due to resume full training soon as he continues to recover from a knee injury that he sustained at former club Porto last season but the youngster is still several weeks away from being in contention for United.

It means Mourinho will be without seven first team players against Brighton this weekend but the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Ashly Young and Chris Smalling are pushing for recalls after being named on the bench against Leicester.
