Chelsea recovered from letting slip a two-goal lead to beat Arsenal 3-2 in a thriller at Stamford Bridge this evening.

Chelsea came flying out the blocks and opened the scoring in the 9th minute as Marcos Alonso got in behind Arsenal’s defence to square for Pedro who swept home for 1-0.

Arsenal had the perfect chance to make it 1-1 ten minutes later but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang blazed over from 8 yards with the goal at his mercy and the visitors were made to pay.

Chelsea went straight up the other end to double their advantage as Alvaro Morata turned Shkodran Mustafi inside out before sliding a shot past Petr Cech for 2-0 after 20 minutes.

The Gunners responded well and pulled one back when Henrikh Mkhitaryan fired home a powerful left-footed effort from the edge of the area – although summer signing Kepa may have done better.

A frantic first 45 minutes ended all-square as Arsenal levelled things up when Mkhitaryan cut-back for Alex Iwobi to calmly convert from 8 yards to make it 2-2.

However, Chelsea dominated after the break and secured all three points late-on as Marcos Alonso fired home from a tight angle after  Alexandre Lacazette had lost possession in a dangerous area.

The win means Maurizio Sarri has started his reign in west London with back-to-back wins while Arsenal have suffered consecutive loses at the start of a season for the first time since 1992.
