Tottenham are reported to have been knocked back with bids for Sergio Aguero, Fernando Llorente, Giuseppe Rossi and Alvaro Negredo as Harry Redknapp desperately tries to snap up a striker before the window slams shut tonight. Sky Sports News covered the story late last night, with Spanish correspondent Guillem Balague confirming the reports.

Tottenham are said to have gone for Llorente first, with a bid of over £28m belived to have been rejected by Athletic Bolbao. Then the astonishing news broke that Tottenham had a British record £38.5m offer rejected by Atletico Madrid for star striker Sergio Aguero, despite the offer matching the release clause set for the player.  The stumbling bloke is that tax laws would mean Aguero would have to pay out up to £12m to buy himself out of the contract, and Spurs were not willing to pay this amount.

Tottenham are then believed to have made another sizeable offer Negrado, that was again knocked back. The last offer tabled was for Villareal’s Giuseppi Rossi, with £23m being offered for the italian striker. The clubs chairman is believe to have claimed £25-£26m may be enough to force a sale.

So exciting times for Spurs fans as it seems Harry is determined to buy an established striker today. Who would Tottenham fans want to see brought to the club?

A very difficult situation for Harry. Especially after these bids failed. From his side, he has given JD,Pav & Crouch the oppurtnities to fill the vacant gap, but they have failed to meet the clubs expectations.

the fact that we’ve needed a striker and a good strong central midfielder since Palacios went AWOL has been known for most of the season. We’ve certainly gone backwards this year and not capitalised on our financial strength and allure of C/L football. It seems if it wasn’t for Levy we’d not have had VdV without whose goals we’d not even be top 5. Leaving all this until the last day – well, teams will hold us to ransom. The window is 31 days, not 1 day!

i’d love to see fabiano in a spurs shirt. he may be a bit older but, in my opinion, offers more than any of those 4 at the moment.
