Reina Looking To Follow Torres Out Of Anfield

By on February 9, 2011

After the shock departure of Fernando Torres to Chelsea, the last member of Rafa Benitez’ Spanish Rafalution, goalkeeper Pepe Reina, has openly declared his intention to look elsewhere in the hunt for silverware.

“Yes, well Van der Sar will hang up his gloves in the summer so of course they (United) are looking,” Reina told Spanish radio station Ondo Sera.

“I can’t do anything. I can’t say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool.”
“Of course one likes to fight for titles and be in a team that does that. We always fought to be in the Champions League and try to win the title. But unfortunately it hasn’t been the case in the last couple of years.”

Reina hinted that his future playing on Merseyside is reliant upon Liverpool finishing in the top four. The Reds sit six points shy of that spot, though their return to form has revived hopes they can sneak into a Champions League spot.

“I won’t lie, I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles,” he said.

Our fantastic keeper who has won the Golden Gloves several times in a Liverpool shirt is the latest player of the old guard to be looking to move away from Anfield, this would be a great shame were it to happen. I hope that by the end of the season we will have finished in the top four and Reina can be convinced to stay. If not, he can’t be allowed join Utd!

I would be bitterly disappointed to see Pepe leave LFC, but even more so if he went to that lot down the rotten end of the East Lancs Road. Torres leaving was no problem, but finding a world class keeper would be. The Fenway Group have been as good as their word and I would earnestly plead with Pepe to give it one more season, great times lie ahead. Ever the optimist, I still believe that we can obtain a top four finish this season, and, don’t forget, we are still in a competition for a european cup as well.

    Sensationalist drivel

Reina says he wants to play Champions League football and you assume that he wants to leave thus disregarding the fact that he repeatedly states his commitment to Liverpool F C.

Gerrard, Carragher, Kuyt, Lucas, Meireles, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Rodriguez, Suarez, Carroll, Ngog, Shelvey, Spearing, Poulsen. Ask all of them and they will say they want to play Champions League football. Ask the players at Villa, Everton and Sunderland too. Does that mean they all want to leave.

Let’s have some insight instead of rubbish.
