Arsenal kept up pace with Manchester United with a 2-0 win over Wolves. A brace from RVP saw the Gunners go through as comfortable winners.

Our first chance came in the 3rd min, when Jack made a brilliant run through the middle. The ball did end up in the back of the net, but the ref blew his whistle giving us a free kick on the edge of the box. RVP stepped up, and skied it.

In the 15th min however, we took the lead. Fabregas’s cross from the right was guided into the net by RVP. A brilliant volley across the keeper by the Dutch-man… 1-0 to the Arsenal. 4 mins later Arshavin missed a sitter. An in-swinging corner by RVP should have been put inside the net by the Russian, but he sent it wide.

In the 30th min Jack played a glorious ball to Arshavin. The Russian out-muscling Zubar passed it back to Theo who shot, but Hennessey saved. Cesc did shoot on the rebound but Stearman cleared it off the line. Brilliant defending from Wolves. We did pick up the tempo after that, and put together some brilliant spells of play, however the score did not change. And with seconds to go to half-time Hennessey kept his team in the game after pulling out a brilliant save from an RVP shot.

With 55 seconds into the 2nd half, we should have got our 2nd. Jack made another brilliant run before laying it off for Theo. This was a sitter for him, and who knows how he missed. 1 min later Wolves almost scored an own goal, but Hennessey did well to react. In the 55th min it was 2-0. A great finish from RVP after Theo played him through. In the 60th min it was a typical Arsenal move. From Theo to Arshavin to Theo to Cesc to RVP. Sadly by the time RVP got it, the ball; had gone out. Were we trying to walk the ball in?

In the 71st min, Nikko and Chamakh came on for Arshavin and RVP. And 6 mins later, it was Jack for Denilson. Both precautionary measures whose reasons were quite obvious. In the 82nd min, we gave a brilliant counter-attack. Sadly, Theo’s curling effort from the right went wide of the goal. 6 mins later to go Theo made a brilliant run from the right before exchanging a quick 1-2 with Chamakh cutting back inside and hitting it straight at Hennessey.

We did absorb some pressure from Wolves in the last few mins but by that time, the game was already won. Final score at the Emirates: Arsenal 2-0 Wolves.

Guns-out,

THE ARMOURY
