Two-Horse Title Race Is Officially On!

With City losing to United over the weekend and Chelsea only managing to bag a point at Craven Cottage on Monday night the title is surely down to a two horse race unless United and Arsenal both press the big red button. Considering the form of both sides thus far and the wealth of experience that United in particular have it is hard to imagine either side letting City or Chelsea back into the race.

Fergie and Wenger look likely to renew Title rivalry

With just 12 games to go the title run in is officially on. United are in pole position with a 4 point cushion however there is still a lot of work to be done. With two games against Chelsea, a trip to the Emirates and a trip to Anfield to come there is plenty more to do for Sir Alex’s side. The Gunners on the other hand have a much easier run in. They will welcome both United and Liverpool to the Emirates and have a rescheduled derby match at White Hart Lane to look forward to.

When you look at the fixture list it is clear there are far more potential banana skins for the Red Devils. Considering United’s poor away form this term, once this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Crawley Town is out of the way the next four matches are of crucial importance as Sir Alex brings his charges on the road to Marseille, Wigan, Chelsea and Liverpool. If United make it through these games with the gap still at 4 points it will be a massive step towards number 19.

While there are still big tests ahead Sir Alex’s men will not be daunted as this season, while many have claimed they have struggled to hit top gear, they have come up trumps in their big games. United have chalked up wins against  Liverpool, Arsenal, City and Spurs at Old Trafford and the gaffer will be looking to finally bring some of this form on the road.

United are odds on to see of Crawley Town and book a place in the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup and with Champions League action resuming next week the games are going to start coming thick and fast. The strength of United’s squad is going to be tested to the limit and I feel with the likes of Hernandez and co. waiting to spring off the bench this could be what shades it for the Red Devils.

The players and fans are well aware of what another league title would mean to the club and Fergie will finally be able to state beyond any doubt that he has not only knocked Liverpool off their perch but overtaken the Anfield side as English footballs most successful club. United were written off by many at the start of the season with City investing heavily and Chelsea seemingly unstoppable as the swatted sides aside by scorelines of 5-0 and 6-0. It is no surprise however that as we approach the business end of the season Sir Alex has his team sitting pretty at the top of the table.

In conclusion, we are in an excellent position and have a massive opportunity to claim number 19. There is however a lot of work to be done and the title will not be handed to us. United’s title credentials will be tested to the limit over the coming weeks and United will have to deliver away from home if number 19 is to become a reality.

What do you think? Is number 19 coming to Old Trafford?
