Liverpool Set To Axe 7 Players To Fund Summer Spending Spree

By on April 2, 2011

Liverpool are set to sell 7 fringe players in a bid to get extra funds for their transfer kitty, according to recent reports.

Jovanovic, Degen, Aquilani, Joe Cole, Insua, Poulsen and Paul Konchesky are set to be axed from the Liverpool FC side come the coming transfer window. The 7 mentioned have been said to bring ‘nothing new to the squad’ and is coming partly to get rid of Roy Hodgson’s ‘excess’, namely Jovanovic, Poulsen and former Fulham man Konchesky.

Serbian forward, Milan Jovanovic has yet to make any sort of notable impact for the Reds, as he has been often been left on the substitute…. if he makes that bench at all. Degen has been out on loan at Stuttgart and the signs seem to be saying that he will not return to Anfield.

Aquilani struggled with the English game and has put in many wonderful performances for Juventus thus far in the season. Juventus are unwilling to meet the 18 million pound price tag, but many Serie A clubs are also rumoured to be interested. Joe Cole has been a regular on the treatment table and was even part of the Lancashire Senior’s Cup. (need anymore explanation?)

Insua is apparently rumoured to be wanting to stay with his current on loan Turkish club Galatasaray, and he is said to not be returning to Anfield, like Degen. Poulsen and Konchesky have both struggled since their moves and they will most likely move in the summer.

Please add Ngog, Brad Jones, Kyrigos and Aurelio to that list…. Aurelio is decent but always injured….. Kyrigos is good too but now too old and a liability…..

I would keep Ngog as the 4th forward and purchase another in the summer. But apart from that I totally agree with Kamster above.

he would be the fifth if we get another striker. We’ve got Suarez, Caroll, Kuyt, the new purchase thus leaving Ngog the 5th striker.
I think it would be better if we sell Ngog and get another quality forward since English Clubs have lots of games thus requiring more quality players for substitution.

I would keep Aquilani – he was’nt given much pitch time but showed abillity towards the end, Cole 50/50 he needs match time but probably won’t get it, But definitly keep Ngog he is getting better and still has time.

n’gog actually made a good first touch in the last match! seems improving is on the way! come on this is liverpool! i wouldn like ngog in my greek team (olympiakos) so how could someone like him in the EPL? joe cole is a very good back up which we signed for free so i dont see why selling a player of proven worth in the EPL in a handy of positions.
we need a couple of wingers surely having kuyt suarez and carroll roaming in the CF position. and defence is the issue for dalglish to solve. gl on that one…

Can someone please tell me why it is that when taggart shows an interest in players theres always a liverpool player amongst the list,e.g pepe reina, but when a liverpool manager dares to even blink at a manc player,e.g gabriel heinz,he jumps up and down like a mad farmer shouting theres noway a manc player will ever go to liverpool while he’s in charge, talk about double standards.

Agreed. Holy crap, liverpool is so disappointing to watch nowadays. IT pains me the way we ‘play’ and how well/miserable some of the players on the pitch look (thats you kirackos, or however you spell your crappy name). Also it seems half the players only give 10%, come on, take a page out of kuyt’s book and give at least 90%. This last game against West Brom was sad- we made them look like barca the way we let manhandle the game and then we failed to have any attack.. Basically we need our heart and soul back: GERRARD COME BACK!

we need need need to sell krapikous. He is so worthless; the only thing he can do is head the ball on corners. And now we have Carroll so we should be set in that department. Normally with a situation like joe cole’s i would say loan him out to give him experience.. But he’s freaking joe cole (aka the ‘new messi’ lol) and has enough experience (didnt he play for some team called chelsea or something?). That sucks, I was stoked for him to come, but in typical anfield fashion (as of late) it seems he has sucked big time. (Exception: suarez is a magnificent).

Also sell n’gog- he is worthless unless we are playing in europa, which we shouldnt be. And then he barely scores that often unless the opponent is truly dreadful.

    Sell: Kyrgiakos (2m), Darby (1m), Aurelio (2m), Insua (5m), Konchesky (2m), Poulsen (3m), Aquilani (13m), Spearing (3m), Jovanovic (5m), Maxi (3m), Cole (5m), Degen (2m), El-Zhar (2m), Jones (3m) & N’Gog (6m) = 53m income from sales

Another 50m from FSG will add up a 103m summer transfer price as Werner, Henry & Comolli have said it will be a busy summer and also they are going to buy BIG!

Must Buys: Gary Cahill (15m), Fabio Coentrao (15m), Charlie Adam (8m), Moussa Sissoko (12m), Ashley Young (15m), Adam Johnson (20m), Connor Wickham (12m)

    Squad will look like this:

    Reina, Gulacsi

Kelly, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Cahill, Coentrao, Wilson

Young, Johnson, Kuyt, Pacheco, Meireles, Gerrard, Lucas, Sissoko, Adam

    Carroll, Suarez, Wickham

Joseph, who is going to pay £14 million for Darby, Degen, El Zhar, Jones and N’Gog? – Be lucky to get 5 or 6 million for that lot.

I am hoping for a few defenders to be added to the squad. I would personally like to see Gary Cahill playing central defence alongside Danny Wilson next year. Martin Kelly on the right as he has impressed me every time I have seen him play. Kyrgiakos had a shocker yesterday and looked completely exposed for pace, Carragher is getting on but a great man as he can play anywhere so is always a handy player. Agger is a good player but lacks confidence and is always injured. Srktel is OK, but not anymore. Johnson is a show pony but has done well at left back.

Elsewhere i would cast all the dead wood adrift, Jovanovic, Joe Cole, Poulsen, Ngog, El Zhar etc. Charlie Adam I hope comes. We desperately need some natural pace and width, Young, Adam Johnson, Matt Jarvis or someone else.

I hope Reina stays, a great goalkeeper, but I can also understand he might want to move on to play CL football.

If someone offered 15 million or more for Kuyt I would sell him. He is a good player, and always tries but we need pace on the right hand side and he doesn’t have that.

But first and foremost we have to sort our defence out. They look shambolic when defending against pace as we saw last night against the Baggies.

#15 Hard to argue with any of that…except that I dont think you can play Carroll and Wickham in the same side…too similar…

The only issue is if we are going to have the cash…

Because everyone here is dead right about one thing…there arent many players that are automatic 1st teamers at the moment…we have some good players and some good squad players but not enough real class…

At the moment the only ones who I see as 1st choice right now are :
    Riena,
    Johnson, Agger,
    Lucas (maybe), Gerrard, Meirieles
    Carroll, Suarez.

Thats not having a go a Kuyt of Lucas either…but Kuyt is getting a bit old…and I am not sure Lucas is good enough to be the mainstay holding mid.

That means we need a left back, a centre back, a holding mid, and another wing/forward…and thats just for the first team…

We still need a backup Goalie, a backup Left back, 2 to 3 in Midfield for cover and 1 up front (assuming we keep Kelly as backup right fullback – not yet fair to depend on someone so young for the whole season, Skrtel, Lucas, Kuyt and Ngog)…

Thats a lot of players and that will cost a lot of money…

I cant see that happening in one window…maybe not even 2….

As for the names put forward…theyre all good – and theres plenty of others that are just as good…but the prices listed are pure speculation and theres no guarantee we’ll get what we need from those we move on, or those that we want will come at those prices…so its a bit stupid to say this is what they must do…they know what they most do…its more about what they can do…

Liverpool did exceptionally well in selling Torres and getting in Suarez and Carroll, it was a fantastic bit of business for them. But they still need a fair few signings to be a challenger again.
They need one, maybe even two wingers, Ashley Young would be an ideal signing, and then maybe a good back up winger with potential, Scott Sinclair for example. They’d then have Sinclair, Young, Kuyt, Maxi and even Gerrard who can play out wide.
Lucas, Mereiles and Gerrard are good centre mids, but they need a top defensive mid too, Yann M’Vila from Rennes is a good choice. The defence in all honesty is a shambles, a left back is needed, Coentrao is the best option I see, they also need a new right back as Johnson isn’t up to it, Van der Wiel is my man for that, and they need a commanding, beast of a centre back, Hangerland for me.
    4.2.3.1 formation.
    GK- Reina
    RB- Van der Wiel
    CB- Hangerland
    CB- Carragher
    LB- Coentrao
    DFM- M’Vila
    CM- Mereiles
    RW/ FW- Suarez
    AMC- Gerrard
    LW- A.Young
    STK- Carroll
Back ups- Jones, Kelly, Agger, Lucas, Maxi, Sinclair, Kuyt

    1. Ngog for me is worth keeping his goals to minutes played ration is very impressive, he has real talent but has had limited chances to play on a regular basis. I would loan him out to Bolton, Birmingham type club for the season then sell him if he doesn;t impress there.

    2. Everyone on here seems to assume that Gerrard is still the world class player of old when his form over the previous 2 seasons has been poor by his standards, his injury record is getting worse by the season. There is no way he can still be considered first choice even when fit. He is now a squad player, difficult to accept as he is
a legend but legends get old

    3. Skrtel is coming back to his best form certainly will challenge for the cb spot. Agger is an issue as our playing style needs a ball playing CB, which is why Hangerland for instance wouldn’t suit. Agger would be 1st choice only he can’t be relied upon to play more than 20 games a season with him being built from glass
